My mother once shared a powerful mantra with me during my college days: “Your Mind is Royal…and No One Can Affect It But You.” This phrase reminded me that, ultimately, I had control over my reactions and emotions. No one could hurt me emotionally if I mastered my thoughts and processing.

My close friend, Aida, and I embarked on a mental fitness challenge, incorporating five daily exercises. These ranged from acknowledging daily gratitude to simply sharing a genuine smile without any ulterior motive. There’s truly nothing like a hearty laugh or some genuine fun. It could be as straightforward as dancing around the living room to a favorite song with my nieces or playing hide and seek with my delightful pup, Happy! The joy he brings has me in fits of laughter; he’s simply the best! You might also find joy in spending time with family, video calling a dear friend, having a heartfelt phone conversation, watching a great movie, taking a well-deserved break, or exploring new destinations (I have a little tradition of picking up a rock as a memento, a token saying, “I’ve been here!”).
