I. I was emotionally and financially bankrupt from a bitter divorce. Together we made tons of money, but now I am penniless. How do I start over?

First of all, I’m sorry about the divorce. That is a very tough situation emotionally to endure, but it’s even harder when you’ve created such a successful partnership with someone. The very idea that you are seeking guidance to start over shows that you are mentally strong. That is what you first will have to equip yourself with… mental preparation and endurance, which you seem to have. Secondly, begin to write out a new vision and purpose for where you'd like to see yourself. Divorce isn’t death, although it may feel as such…but look around, you’re still here. You are turning the page in a new chapter in your life. You are at a threshold to create and walk into a new destiny for your life. Essentially, that ended relationship can open up all new doors and windows of opportunity to connect with new people, new ideas, and new talents. Whatever vision or purpose you decide to write down, let it serve as a clear road map to your future. Lastly, without really knowing your day-to-day finances, what I would suggest you do is create a business plan that will include what I like to call a "money journey" (a financial plan). This business plan will help assist you with income goals, which will include weaning & transitioning your lifestyle back into the 'business flow' of things. You will be creating a plan that can not only sustain your livelihood, but one that will be congruent to your business’ needs and growth spurts as well. Hope this helps! P.S. II. I am a single-parent with young children, although my kids are self-sufficient because they aren’t babies. However, I’m single and make the median income with very little income remaining. I don’t see how I can muster up any energy sufficient enough to take care of my family, work a job, and then make time to start a new business, even though I feel my idea would be a great product. Any suggestions?

III. I have two great ideas for business ventures. Should I do both at the same time?

Typically, no! However, I would say it really depends on the resources around you and your knowledge and expertise in the current industries you’re looking to get into. For me, I started with ‘Company A’ and months later had an idea that would catapult ‘Company A’ by launching ‘Company B,’ so that both could work simultaneously with one another. The drive, motivation, and zeal was all there, but the skill-set, knowledge, and resources weren’t. I truly thought I had a genius idea to move forward & didn’t think at the time I was moving too fast. Essentially I enrolled in crash course 101…the advanced lesson! I had absolutely no idea the amount of work and specific skill-sets needed to successfully have the upward mobility I was seeking. My lesson… no matter what industry you venture into, you MUST learn the “businesses within the business”. You can not skip steps! In order to drive clients and leads to your business, you have to study, learn, apply, and adapt all the skills necessary to groom yourself for longevity & sustainability. I would suggest really taking your time. Delve into one thing only and get your engine running and moving. Once you have created an income, than move on to the next thing. Unless you really have the resources & skill-sets to push two ideas, than I’d really consider holding off. As a result, your time won’t have to be divided as much. ~ Hope this helps! ~ Taryn LaRae
